Why it is Important to Purchase Genuine Propecia

December 4th, 2007

Recently, the Food and Drug Administration has announced that over 10% of the prescription drugs that are sold globally are counterfeit.  In several countries, this percentage has risen to approximately 25%.  This is one of the reasons why it is so important to purchase genuine Propecia.

The manufactures of the prescription drug Propecia have said that fake replicas are becoming a huge problem around the world. This issue is affecting the pharmaceutical industry, doctors, and patients.

In some cases, purchasing counterfeit medication has caused injury, and in the most severs of cases, death has occurred.  Thankfully, there are several reputable pharmacy websites that do not sell fake or counterfeit Propecia medications. It is important to research an online pharmacy before you purchase your prescription through them. An example of a reputable site is getpharma.com. This site has assisted thousands of people with receiving high-quality prescriptions, such as Propecia, at great prices.

When you purchase Propecia online, make sure that you are buying genuine Propecia. Look into an online pharmacy’s background, perform a web search, and see if there have been any negative reviews. Also, if you have friends or family members that purchase prescriptions online, ask them who they recommend. It is important that you receive quality Propecia, not counterfeit tablets. Do not hesitate to report a site that sells fake or counterfeit medication.

Information to Discuss With Your Physician Before Taking Propecia

December 3rd, 2007

Before you start to take Propecia, it is crucial that you inform your healthcare provider if you suffer from liver disease. Men who have liver disease may have to take a reduced dose of Propecia and will require special monitoring and blood work performed during the entire course of treatment. Now, if your liver disease is in the advance stages, your doctor may not prescribe Propecia for you at all.

It is very important that a woman, especially if pregnant, does not handle or take Propecia. This is because Propecia may cause an unborn baby to have a birth defect. The Food and Drug Administration has classified Propecia in the category X when relating to pregnancy. If a woman may become pregnant, she should not handle broken or crushed tablets of Propecia. This is because the medication can be absorbed through the layers of the skin.

If there is a pregnant woman in your household, it is important to talk with your doctor about the risks of Propecia. The risks only occur if the pregnant woman handles Propecia. If you are having any other health problems or other issues, it is essential that you tell your doctor before starting treatment with Propecia. This will ensure that Propecia will not affect your current health conditions or react with the medications that you are already taking. Propecia is a safe and successful treatment that prevents male pattern hair loss from progressing. There are thousands of men who have had positive results with Propecia, and it does not cause any known side effects or reactions with other medications.

A New Study of Propecia and Postmenopausal Women

December 2nd, 2007

Recently a study was conducted in which five postmenopausal women where given a five milligram oral dose of Propecia each day. This study was conducted because there has been extensive research that has positively reported that Finasteride, the main ingredient in Propecia, is effective at treating male pattern hair loss.  However, there has not been much research based on women and Propecia. In fact, this has been a very controversial topic that many scientists have not broached.

During the study, the five women were given the oral dose of Finasteride to treat their hair loss. Hair loss in women is not very common, but a small percentage of women do suffer from it. The effects were evaluated through investigative assessments and photographs. The photographs were taken at the baseline at six, twelve, and eighteen months.

During the study, the women experienced a decrease in hair loss, improved scalp hair, an increase in hair regrowth, and an improvement in the overall appearance of the hair. There were not any adverse side effects that were reported by any of the women. This study provided evidence that Propecia is an effective treatment for postmenopausal women suffering from hair loss, allowing these women to not exhibit any signs of hyperandrogenism.

Now, it is still unknown whether or not Propecia will be prescribed to women who suffer from hair loss.  It is up to the FDA and the medical community to make this decision. Nonetheless, these findings report good news for women who suffer from hair loss. Hopefully, there will be more studies conducted on this very subject in the near future.

Testing that May Occur While Taking Propecia

December 2nd, 2007

Propecia is known to lower the amount of prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, that is found in the blood. Since this is known to happen while taking Propecia, your doctor will perform routine blood tests that will monitor the decrease in the amount of PSA. Your doctor may also perform other types of monitoring while you are taking Propecia.

One of the most routine tests that are performed, during the course of treatment with Propecia, is a test that is designed to help detect prostate cancer. This test will use the amount of PSA in your blood in order to assist in the early detection of prostate cancer. This is a routine test that is performed on most men who take Propecia, as a once-a-day treatment for hair loss.

The reason that your doctor will test the amount of PSA in your blood is to ensure that the amount of PSA has not been reduced significantly.  Also, during the course of your treatment other blood work may be performed. However, this is common when starting any type of new prescription medication.

When you are taking Propecia, it is important that you follow all of your doctor’s or pharmacist’s dosing instructions. You want to ensure that you take Propecia with eight ounces of water. Studies have proven that Propecia can be taken before or after eating. After you have taken your daily tablet, you should store Propecia in a storage cabinet that is cool and at least four feet off the ground.

What Other Drugs Affect Propecia Negatively?

November 30th, 2007

When taking a new medication, it is always a smart move to know what types of medications, foods, or beverages could cause an adverse reaction with the prescription. For example, when taking antibiotics, this can cause other prescription medicine to become ineffective. To prevent this from happening, it is important to know all of the facts.

During the clinical trials of Propecia, doctors did not find any adverse reactions to any activities, beverages, or food during the course of the treatment of Propecia. Men who were taking Propecia could eat and drink their favorite foods. Also, none of their daily activities had to stop during treatment. Now, your doctor may advise you otherwise depending on your current health situation. It is important to ask your doctor what his or her recommendations are.

Currently, there have been no reported interactions or adverse effects of taking other medications at the same time as Propecia. Nonetheless, you should tell your pharmacist and your doctor about any prescription medications you are taking. This includes vitamins, over-the-counter medication, herbal products, and minerals. Currently, Propecia is safe to take with other prescriptions and herbal tablets.

This is good news for the thousands of men that are taking Propecia. Propecia is a treatment that stops hair loss from occurring any further, and a percentage of men experience the growth of new hair.  When taking Propecia, make sure to talk with your doctor about your lifestyle and medications that you take. This is just a safety precaution that anyone should use when starting a new treatment program.
